What I want to accomplish

	* Remember how to use the furnace,
	* Experiment with different types of available glass,
	* Work out how to determine the suitability of different types of glass. What criteria do I need to test?
	* Work out whether I need to go down the road of creating my own glass.

What I want to accomplish

	* Build a machine to polish glass surfaces very smooth,
	* Wring some smooth glass surfaces together,
	* Characterise a wrung glass join.

THE MACHINE:

Wrong machine.

The idea is to ensure that each portion of each surface of both parts touches every other part:

	* Fuse and temper the crushed glass,
	* Compare the washed versus unwashed, and float versus cast,
	* Polish the resulting slugs,
	* Drop test.

What I've done

I ran the crushed and washed blown glass, and the unwashed, de-silvered float glass through the following profile in the kiln:

	* Build a polishing jig.

What I've done

Build two fixtures with a padded cradle to hold a glass slug. One that fits onto the pottery wheel and one that reciprocates.

	* Make some glass slugs for testing polishing processes

What I've done

I want to test a few different ways of polishing glass to a high finish. For these tests I need lots of identical glass slugs. Some bad luck and poor planning when making ginger beer resulted in a good quantity of broken glass bottles.

What I've done

I bought another muffin pan and pre-fired it. This destroyed it. I think the oxide layers that formed were thicker than the metal in the pan. It had the consistency of a Sao biscuit.

What I want to accomplish

	* Make some glass slugs for testing polishing processes

What I've done

I welded a steel plate on the bottom of a steel cylinder to make crushing glass easier. I crushed, sieved and rinsed some more bottle glass. Approximate particle range between 0.5mm and 15mm. I soaked the glass in some 30% hydrochloric acid for a few hours. There was some fizzing upon adding the acid, indicating that there was something reactive being destroyed. I poured the acid off into anothe…
